A Decade of Safety: 2014 Volvo XC90 Awarded Top Safety Pick +

At the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, Swedish automaker Volvo previewed the look and styling of the next-generation XC90 through its Concept Coupe and teaser images. As excited as we are for the new model, though, the current generation is still making headlines.

How so, you might wonder? Well, with the recent arrival of the 2014 XC90 to our showroom, it was time for the car to submit to its usual gauntlet of safety tests from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The result was the highest-possible Top Safety Pick + designation.

This is great news for a variety of reasons. For one, it means that the XC90's priority of safety hasn't dampened at all in its ten years on the market. It also means that drivers who are attracted by Volvo's high standards of safety will have even more to look forward to when they drive their new model.

In order to get such a high safety ranking, the SUV endured five major tests to gauge its crash performance. These included a front, side, and rear impact test, a rollover test, and a moderate overlap test. It scored "good" in each one, making it the third new Volvo model in the past three years to score so highly.
